EduXChange 2016 International Conference has been successfully held

On Nov6-7, EduXChange 2016 : Leadership and Innovation for the Future in Open and Distance Learning International Conference has been successfully held at Shanghai Open University. The conference is co-hosted by SOU (the UNESCO Unitwin Network in Distance and Open Learning) and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO. The conference theme is ‘Leadership and Innovation for the Future’, which attracts more than 200 well-known scholars from 19 different countries to attend the conference.

DU Yue, the Secretary-General of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, Marielza OLIVEIRA, Director of the UNESCO Office Beijing, GUO Weilu, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and YUAN Wen, President of SOU gave opening speeches at the opening ceremony. CHENG Danhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of SOU, chaired the conference.

Professor Asha Kanwar, President& CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning, Professor YANG Zhijian, President of the Open University of China, Professor Jilly Salmon, Vice-Chancellor of University of Western Australia, Professor CHEN Li, Vice President of Beijing Normal University, Professor Betty Merchant, Dean of College of Education and Human Development of the University of Texas, Professor Keith Zimmerman, University Secretary of the Open University of UK, Professor JIA Li, Principal of Zhengzhou Aero-metropolis International School, and   Professor Diana Laurillard, Director of Knowledge Lab and Institute of Education of University College of London delivered keynote speeches at the conference.

Parallel sessions have been organized to cover the following topics: Development of Institutional and Managerial Leadership, Construction of Teaching Team Leadership, Management and Quality of Branch Schools, Market Development and Mechanism Innovation, and Learning Analytics and Big Data in Education. 31 scholars gave presentations and exchanged practical experience during the sessions.

Attendees actively communicated and interacted with each other during the conference, to share opinions and experience related to the theme. The theme has been deeply discussed during the conference, which helps Chinese open universities further promote the innovation of institutional mechanisms, the quality of education and management level, and the construction and development of open universities under the guide of Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Running Open Universities issued by the Ministry of Education.
