University System

Shanghai Open University system has established a city-wide lifelong learning platform with both an Open and Distance Learning System and a Learning Society Construction System. The former consists of the headquarter University and 40 branch instruction schools and instruction points while the latter is formed of 1 Municipal-level center, 17 district-level community colleges, 216 town and sub-district-level community schools, and more than 5,000 learning centers.

Taking advantage of the integrated educational system, Shanghai Open University has successfully established a lifelong education and a national education system and becomes a bridge linking the academic and non-academic education, secondary and higher education for adults, and vocational and higher education. Its lifelong learning service system covers both urban and rural areas that extend to the grass-root communities and enterprises, thus creating a lifelong learning environment of “learning by anyone, at anytime and anywhere”.
